The ÐÔÊӽ紫ýn is seeking a Director, Economics to join our team. This is a hybrid position with Mondays and Fridays remote and Tuesday – Thursday in office. The salary range for this position is $110k - $130k, based on skills and experience.

General Summary of Position:

The Economist leads ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s data and insights strategy, serving as the organization’s foremost authority on industry performance and provides actionable intelligence on the economy. The role will also conduct economic analyses of proposed regulations and legislation affecting the intermodal freight industry.

This role ensures that ÐÔÊӽ紫ý and its members have access to cutting-edge research, data tools, and strategic foresight. By analyzing consumer and market data, informing policy development, and delivering thought leadership, the Economist enables smarter decision-making across ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, our members, and industry at large. This individual will serve as a prominent voice for ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, delivering expert insights via publications, presentations, live and virtual events, interviews, and thought leadership to a variety of key audiences including ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s board of directors and members, shippers, government bodies, media, and partner organizations.

What You’ll Do:

Principal Duties:

  • Research & Analysis: Gathering and interpreting economic data to identify patterns, trends, potential risks, and opportunities
  • Economic Forecasting: Forecasting economic trends and their potential effects on freight demand
  • Policy & Advocacy: Working closely with ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s government affairs team to assess the impact of legislation and regulations on freight transportation as well as shape economic and trade policies that benefit intermodal sector
  • Industry Representation: Communicating complex economic findings in clear reports, white papers, and presentations for stakeholders

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct economic research and data analysis to identify its effects on the freight industry
  • Develop models to forecast economic trends and assess potential impacts on the freight economy
  • Prepare reports and presentations that translate complex economic findings into understandable and actionable insights
  • Monitor and interpret market changes, policy shifts, and global economic movements
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to integrate economic insights into business strategies
  • Advise on economic policies and help shape organizational decision-making
  • Direct the monthly collection, review, and publication of intermodal performance statistics from ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s data providers: Build and maintain strong relationships with each data provider
  • Expand the number of data providers, where appropriate
  • Develop new methods to capture and report industry metrics
  • Collaborate with other staff to develop interactive data resources
  • Direct the work of our data analysis partners
  • Manage the existing relationships with our external data partners and expand the number of sources, where appropriate
  • Perform the analysis and write the monthly Intermodal In-Depth and the weekly Flash Updates
  • Lead ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s Intermodal Analyzed webinars (~6 per year)
  • Speak at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý events (Intermodal EXPO and Intermodal Business Meeting) and other industry meetings (such as Manifest, TPM, TIA, AAPA, etc.)
  • Serve as a resource on the economy and intermodal to media outlets (JOC, Transport Topics, CNBC, Bloomberg, WSJ, etc.)

Who You Are:

  • 2 to 6 years of relevant professional experience with freight transportation
  • Master’s degree in economics, preferably with specialization in transportation
  • University degree in economics, preferably with specialization in transportation, may be considered when combined with freight experience with similar an organization.
  • Experience in intermodal transportation is a highly desired asset
  • Strong background in economic modelling, forecasting, and policy advisory
  • Ability to perform econometric forecasting using tools such as Python, R, SAS, etc.
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, Power BI is a plus
  • Self-motivated, innovative, creative and lateral thinking ability
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Experience presenting in live and virtual settings
  • Ability to adapt and willingness to learn continuously, with a strong analytical and synthesizing mind

The ÐÔÊӽ紫ýn is seeking a Vice President, Government Affairs to join our team. This is a hybrid position with Mondays and Fridays remote and Tuesday – Thursday in our satellite DC office. The salary range for this position is $180k-250k, based on skills and experience.

General Summary of Position:

We are looking for a Vice President, Government Affairs to lead our policy efforts on Capitol Hill. In this role you will work closely with Members of Congress, Committees, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Members, federal agencies, etc. to grow our advocacy in the transportation industry.

What You’ll Do:

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limitedto:

  • Develop and implement a government relations strategy
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key US government officials, Members of Congress, Committees, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Members, federal agencies, staffers, etc
  • Monitor legislative trends, policies, regulations, etc. and provide regular reports to CEO/President and senior staff
  • Act as a liaison to ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s board members, industry partners, and association members, to ensure advocacy work reflects industry priorities
  • Represent ÐÔÊӽ紫ý at industry events, trade shows, policy forums, and congressional briefings to strengthen relationships with key decision-makers
  • Serve as a lobbyist responsible for industry policy and advocacy to the Transportation sector
  • Research and propose development of an ÐÔÊӽ紫ý PAC
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a variety of written materials to help advance advocacy goals, including district and policy one-pagers; talking points; internal memos; and background materials

Who you are:

  • Experience in the transportation sector, intermodal transportation experience preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in congressional or executive branches
  • Proven track record of successfully navigating complex legislative environments
  • Working understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes, including rules and procedures of relevant legislative and regulatory bodies
  • 10 years in government affairs, advocacy, public policy
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
